Saturday - Skipton to Leeds pub crawl

A while ago Work Mike and I had a pork pie in Skipton that, at the time, was the best pork pie we had ever had. This lead to me convincing Jo that we should have pork pies at the wedding which she agreed to with a condition that I source the best possible ones. Work Mike and I have since tried a few with the Skipton one coming out on top. To reinforce our thoughts we had to go back and try them again with an idea snowballing into a real ale pub crawl starting in Skipton with a pork pie and then taking in pubs along the train line back to Leeds - William of Corder joined us on the adventure.....

PUB NUMBER ONE - THE CASTLE

PORK PIES
I thought we would get our wedding pork pies from Stanforths.  I was wrong!!!

Work Mike was initially very excited to get his hands on a pie...
But William of Corder was not impressed.  We all agreed that the pork pies were disappointing.  They were slightly burned on the bottom and the filling was nice but saltier than we remembered. But the main issue was that when we bit into them strange juice came out! It was lucky we were standing up or we would have been covered in it! Imagining that happening at the wedding - Jo would freak!  For me, the front runner is still Wilson's Butchers in Leeds, but we will continue our search.  I will be going to P & I Butchers in Birkenshaw next, as recommended by @eviesgran - thanks for that!  Anyways, back to the ale...

PUB NUMBER TWO -THE BLACK HORSE

PUB NUMBER THREE - THE RED LION

To get on the Roll of Honour you need to drink 8 pints in one go!!
PUB NUMBER FOUR - THE NARROW BOAT

Not the busiest inside!

I was surprised to bump into Hunter Pig
We then jumped on the train to our next destination. As we were already 4 pints down, there was some debate over the next stop but we decided to chance our luck on the next stop - Cononley.
If you look closely you may be able to make out the route!
PUB NUMBER FIVE - THE RAILWAY

Lovely smiles
The classic thumbs up
Jo and I have decided that when we get a dog it be like this one - meet Bentley the Cockapoo
Then it was back on the tipsy train to Bingley.

PUB NUMBER SIX - THE WHITE HORSE - BINGLEY

This was the worst pub we went into - it was dead as show above

I would suggest the quality of the pint glasses reflects the quality of the establishment
We decided that it was best to leave Bingley pretty sharp-ish so it was back to the train to Shipley. We decided to miss Saltaire out which on reflection was a mistake as there is a good pub just by the station. Shipley was also pretty rubbish to be honest!!

PUB NUMBER SEVEN - THE SUN HOTEL - SHIPLEY

Work Mike on the train
A pretty grotty pub to be honest - the real ale selection was non existent so we went for Guiness. We decided not to hang about to long and headed back to Leeds which was our final destination.
PUB NUMBER EIGHT - THE BREWERY TAP - LEEDS
This is quality real ale pub that brews it own ale on site. Our final choice was this one - really tasty stuff
Where the magic happens
The quality of this final picture probably reflects our state after a days of drinking, taking in eight pubs and eight pints of real ale. After this we headed to a bbq with Rob Wolf but there are no pictures as my iphone ran out of juice - probably a good thing!
